Canned Heat
Hey, what's up folks. I've been all too busy this last two weeks due to the exams et al and I hadn't time to prepare my broadcast, so I decided to feature something that doesn't need preparation and last a hell of a long time. The blatant solution was a long jam, and I opted for Canned Heat's "Woodstock Boogie" in its full length version of 28 min 32 s. No matter what you think about it, I suppose that you have to hear this kind of thing at least one time in your life. I assume it's totally unhype, slicy labouredbe and probably too long, so if you have already hear it and don't want to renew the experience, I recommend you to wait for next week show which will be all your loved Shindig! kinda music!
I think the best way to appreciate this music is to see it live. I remember seeing Dickey Betts & Great Southern live in State College, PA and it was a truly stunning moment, almost mind-boggling and the nearly half an hour songs were all the more good. Concerning Canned Heat, I prefer by far their original version of "Fried Hockey Boogie", even if their Woodstock performance is said to have been one of the highlight of the festival, which I totally understand 'cause they are really able to do great stuff live and to entertain a large crowd easily. But now, take some time to listen to it.
So here it is, the podcast from Shindig! radio show from May 13, 2011 featuring Canned Heat live at Woodstock on August 16, 1969 :

I'm not a particular fan of hippies (and that's an understatement) and their weird clothes and habits, but I do love Canned Heat "Goin' Up The Country" (who doesn't ?) which was chose to promote the Woodstock based movie and used in its trailer. Here's the vid (ugly but funny people) :
